AICPA Postpones XYZ Credential Vote
Electronic Accountant Online (08/31/00) Vol. 104, No. 42 p.B2; Mencke, Claire

The AICPA has postponed making a decision on whether its full membership will vote on establishing a new credential recognizing proficiency in accounting and related professions. The vote on whether to submit the matter to the full membership, which had been scheduled for the fall meeting of the institute's ruling council, will now be held at the Council's spring meeting. The credential, which was formerly referred to as "XYZ," is now tentatively named "Cognitor," a word with Latin roots coined specifically for this project. The AICPA is working jointly with chartered accountancy organizations from seven other countries to develop standards for the new designation.
