An ACLI spokesman says that since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, life-insurance sales have risen by as much as 40 percent. Still, a large number of Americans who probably should have life insurance are without it, and younger couples in particular, even childless couples, should consider owning a policy, says Robert Weagley, an assistant professor of consumer and family economics at Missouri University. For the majority of such people, a term policy is the most simple and straightforward method: You die, they pay.
