CheckFree, a provider of electronic bill payment solutions, is hoping to further the trend of online bill payment. CheckFree's I-solutions division is offering XML-based billing solutions for the telecommunications, insurance, banking, utility, and brokerage industries. CheckFree's core product, I-Series, transforms data used for producing paper bills into XML-based "objects." These objects are used to create a flexible business application. Using I-solutions, billers can either host the application themselves or outsource it to CheckFree. Bills can be distributed for access at banks, brokerages, Internet portals, or the biller's site. CheckFree also enables billers to track the status of a payment through a browser-based window, regardless of whether the bill is presented at the biller's site. I-Solution's customers within the insurance sector include Allstate, Trimark, Guardian Life, Nationwide, Metropolitan Life, and UNUM.
