Consumers Seen Over-Emphasizing Insurance After Attacks

Following the Sept. 11 attacks, consumers have been flooding insurers with requests for more life insurance. Herb Perone, a spokesman for ACLI, said that inquiries and sales are up as much as 49 percent at some companies. However, some life insurance companies and agents are noticing that people with adequate coverage are also calling for more insurance, rather than addressing actual holes in their emergency planning, such as writing a will, establishing beneficiaries in retirement plans, and setting up emergency funds.
