Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) now offer life care, an increasingly popular lifestyle and health care option for seniors. The program, which charges only a one-time deposit and a monthly service fee, allows independent seniors to take advantage of the communities' onsite assisted living and skilled nursing facilities if necessary--without raising the cost of care. John Spooner of Greystone Communities, one company that offers such programs, says that seniors are healthier and living longer and that they want to ensure their future health care needs will be met even if their financial situation changes in the future. Skilled nursing facilities often cost upwards of $60,000 annually. Estate preservation is also offered through life care, refunding the depositor or estate part of the one-time life deposit. Meanwhile, residents benefit from high-class services and amenities allowing them to live an active and independent life.
