4 Airlines Drop Their Discounts for the Elderly
New York Times (07/15/02) Vol. 18, No. 2 p.C6; Mulvey, Janemarie

American, Delta, Northwest, and US Airways have discontinued their 10 percent senior discounts, but Southwest said that its discounts would remain in effect, while Continental airlines declined to comment. A Northwest representative claimed that the discounts were dropped to save the airline money on paperwork, and because fares were already below normal prices. Delta, however, introduced a new senior fare for tickets purchased two weeks in advance with a Saturday night stay. US Airways offers discounts to seniors who buy multiple tickets.
