According to the 44th annual survey conducted by the Profit-Sharing/401(k) Council of America, average retirement fund participant contributions were $3,806 in 2000. Average company contributions totaled 5 percent of payroll, or 8.2 percent for profit-sharing plans and 2.5 percent for 401(k) plans. More than 8 percent of plans have automatic enrollment. About 79.3 percent of employers allow employees to make investment transactions online, and 62 percent have policy statements available to participants. About 13 different funds are available to participants of most plans, including domestic equity, international equity, balanced stock/bond, and indexed domestic equity funds.
