Conflicting Advice: Opponents of Advice Bill Back Another Measure

A number of financial firms are concerned that a House-approved bill sponsored by Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) could lead workers into investments that benefit the financial firms more than investors. Supporters of the bill, which would let financial firms offer both retirement plans and retirement advice, cite fiduciary and disclosure provisions in the bill. "We think the ['advice factor'] is a fundamental problem," says David Certner, AARP's director of economic issues.
