Savings Bill Clears Senate Panel

The Senate Finance Committee Thursday approved a pension reform bill that passed the House last month, amending it to include a tax credit for investors with low or moderate incomes. This means the Senate could pass the bill, which increases the maximum annual IRA savings and 401(k) contributions, within three weeks. Separately, the House was unable to override the presidential veto of an estate-tax repeal bill.
