Retirement Account Coverage Has Fallen Behind the Times

Since Americans are being asked to personally manage an increasingly greater amount of their retirement funds, writes American Banker's David Bochnowski, it is paramount that they be given significantly more than the $100,000 of coverage that is presently available for retirement savings. In these uncertain times, retirement savers are moving away from equities and toward bank accounts to protect their assets. But the deposit insurance coverage for tax-deferred retirement savings has fallen behind inflation and it is time for Congress to correct this problem, writes Bochnowski.
