White House Hits 'Factual Errors' on Social Security
Washington Times (06/02/02) ; Lambro, Donald

The White House sent a letter to Sen. John Corzine (D-N.J.), stating that Corzine's criticism of the Bush administration's plan to let workers invest some of their Social Security payroll taxes includes errors and misunderstandings. According to the letter, no benefits will be reduced and the proposals will improve Social Security's future solvency, and cites Social Security actuaries' evidence that the proposals will reduce pressure on general revenues. The letter also counters Corzine's charge that investments could collapse if the stock market goes down with the statement that accounts would be invested only in diversified funds.
